Hopi Ear Candling (also known as Thermal Auricular Therapy) is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears, used to treat a variety of conditions.  These ear candles induce a revitalising heat upon the head and ears which soothes, relieves and relaxes.

What is Thermal Auricular Therapy?

The use of ear candles has been used in many different countries for thousands of years and is today widely used throughout Europe, America and Asia by GP’s and hospitals.

The treatment is commonly known as Hopi Ear Candling named after the  Hopi Indians of north-east Arizona, even though many other tribes accross the world use the therapy. They used candles in medicinal ceremonies and initiations to clear negative energies from the head and aura.

The correct term however for the therapy is Thermal Auricular Therapy, using the effects of heat and movement to remove blockages and aide balance to the sinuses.

What is involved in a Thermal Auricular Therapy Treatment?

Thermal Auricular Therapy  does not use candles made with wax and a wick but instead uses special candles, approximately 10 inches long with a filter on one end. They are hollow tubes traditionally made from organically grown flax, extracts of honey, beeswax and herbs

It is carried out while the client relaxes on their side on a therapy couch. The candles work by vapourising their ingredients using the chimney principle drawing any impurities to the surface where they can be gently removed.  They are specially designed so that no ash will fall nor any direct heat be felt by the client.

Both ears are always treated in Thermal Auricular Therapy even if one is more affected than the other as this brings balance to the entire system.

.

Following the treatment a gentle facial massage is given which includes the face, shoulders and scalp.  This helps to improve lymphatic drainage and circulation so that the treatment continues to work and give an overall soothing calming experience.

It is advisable to wear loose fitting clothes for the massage and you will be required to remove all jewellery from face and neck.  It is advisable not to get the ears wet directly following the treatment so if it is raining or wet outside (as it often is in Britain!) then please bring along a hat or umbrella.

Following treatment you should feel more balanced and refreshed. As the therapy can continue working for 24-48hours following a session it is advisable not to get water in the ear.

The mixture of massage , warmth ad overall vibration of the ear drum causes the balance and equilibrium of pressure in the head, sinuses, nose and ear itself, to relieve excess wax as well aiding hearing problems and other sinus and head ailments.

Spiritual Healing

The candles work on the eastern principle that if energy is circulating properly around the body then the individual will be fully healthy and well.  Therefore one of the functions of the treatment is to re-stimulate the energy around the head and ears.

Native American tribes use the candles in medicinal ceremonies and initiations to clear negative energies from the head and aura and balance the upper chakra’s of the throat, third eye and crown.

The fire of the candle cleanses and carries away any negative vibrations from ones energy fields and harmonising the energy status.
