Indian Head Massage is a wonderfully relaxing and non-invasive form of massage.which is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing which has been practiced in India for thousands of years.

The benefits of this soothing massage are numerous with the most prominent being stress relief and ease of tension and muscles, creating relaxation and calm.   Indian Head Massage  works not only on the head but also the neck, shoulders, back, arms and face to soothe out muscles and joints. It involves using a firm yet gentle pressure on the major muscles groups in the neck, back and shoulders where the affects of stress often accumulate.  The circulatory and lymphatic systems improve, toxins are dispersed from tense muscles and flexibility and fluidity of movement is restored.

In today's hectic world many of us are suffering from the effects of stress caused by overwork, financial issues and lifestyles. This has caused a greater increase in the number of people being treated for stress and stress-related conditions. Although stress is often caused by a mental or emotional issue it often shows in the physical body causing stiff joints, migraines and headaches, tension in the neck and shoulders, and eye strain. It can also affect our personality causing irritability, anxiety and even depression. Tension and stress is often held in the upper body which is targetted by the fluid movements and firm yet soothing pressure of an Indian Head Massage which is why it has become a prominent form of stress management.

It is a gentle yet effective massage which can relieve stress and provide relaxation and tranquiltiy in an otherwise frantic world.

What is an Indian Head Massage Treatment?

Indian Head Massage has its roots in ancient India where women used seasonal oils to give each other massages to keep their hair strong and beautiful. This was passed down in family traditions and also practised by barbers when going to clients houses to cut hair.

In Indian traditions, it is believed that massage preserves the body's life force and energy, and is the most powerful way of relaxing and rejuvenating the body.

The massage involves working on the upper back, neck, shoulders, head and face areas. Although the massage only works on the upper part of the body, collectively the areas represent a de-stressing programme for the whole body.

The client is seated during the treatment with pillows being used to aide comfort and support. This can be a beneficial form of massage for clients who cannot lie down for long periods of time as is required in some other forms of massage.

Massaging the scalp stimulates the flow of blood to the follicles improving the supply of nutrients needed for healthy hair growth. This is further enhanced when oils are used. These lock moisture in the body leaving it smoother and make hair especially lustrous and conditioned. Creams can also be used on the skin during the massage.

For a complete Indian Head Massage experience oils are a wonderful extra that can be used on the body and/or hair or moisturiser can be used just on the skin if the client does not like the sensation of oil or wishes to go out afterwards and does not want oil on their hair!

There is no extra cost for either medium used and please feel free to ask me prior to treatment about the various oils available.

Please note: Some oils are nut based, please state at time of booking appointment if you have a nut allergy so an alternative massage oil can be used.
