Reiki is a completely complementary therapy which works to activate the bodies own healing system to bring you back to optimum health and wellbeing.

What is Reiki?

Reiki treatments work with the body's own healing capabilities by helping to accelerate its natural healing process and therefore restore balance to all levels - physical, mental and emotional.

The system we use today was developed by Dr Usui at the end of the 1800s. He realised that by tapping into the universal or life force energy that is around us through Reiki this system could be used to heal and relax the physical body.

It works on the whole body rather than only the area that is in pain which often happens when being treated by conventional medicine and in so doing treats not only the symptom but the cause of the ailment.  As such it can be used alongside traditional Western medicine and treatments without undermining the desired results.  However it is also a soothing and balancing therapy which can be used alone when conventional medicine is not necessary to promote healing and emotional balance.

This method of healing is gaining increasing popularity and credence with our Western Medicine and medical staff are employing Reiki practitioners to work alongside more orthodox treatments.

The treatment is ideal for anyone from the very young to the very old and you will be left with a deep feeling of relaxation and well-being.

At well as healing the physical body reiki works on the mental and emotional aspects of a persons health making it a holistic or 'whole' healing experience.  Often physical ailments start in the conscious or unconscious mind due to emotional or mental turmoil such as stress , depression, bereavenent or even seperation; which can in turn manifests itself physically causing headaches, stomach pain, muscle tension, insomnia etc. Reiki works not only on the physical symptoms but also on  the underlying mental and emotional issues to create harmony and balance in the mind and body.

If you are in full health the treatment  can help keep the body strong, energy levels high and the mind balanced assisting to keep the body in good health .

An ideal treatment for general relaxation and to 'recharge the batteries' and a balancer of emotions.

What is involved in a Reiki Treatment?

Reiki a gentle hands-on therapy.

Reiki is best performed whilst the client is lying down, on a therapy couch, though for clients which find this position difficult or uncomfortable it can be done whilst seated. The client does not need to remove any item of clothing though it is advised to wear loose fitting clothing to ensure you are comfortable throughout the treatment.

It is advisable to have the full one hour treatment though  we do offer a 30minute treatment for those who, possibly due to physical ailments,  are unable to lie or sit still for such a period of time. It is better to have shorter yet regular treatments of reiki than none at all!

Although it is classed as a hands-on healing technique the practitioner only places their hands on certain parts of your body with the majority of the treatment being carried out with the hands above the physical body. Reiki is a form of channelled healing energy and therefore physical contact is not normally required. This makes it an ideal form of healing or relaxation for those who find treatments such as massage too invasive or painful.

Spiritual Healing

As well as the many physical benefits of Reiki it also works on the spiritual level to promote relaxation, aid the healing process and help with meditation.  Although a deeply spiritual practice it is not affiliated with a particular religion and can be used by anyone seeking inner peace and wellbeing.

Reiki like many Eastern health systems works on the theory that physical ailments are the result of mental or emotional disruptions. Everyone has a energy system or life force known as 'Chi' in China or 'Prana' in India which if flowing smoothly results in harmonious mental and physical systems in the mind and body.

However if this energy flow gets blocked or disrupted by negative energy then this can show in our physical body as stress, pain or illness.

It is an excellent balancer of all levels of a persons being and so gives a sense of overall wellbeing for mind, body and spirit.
