Anxiety and Stress seems to be very prelevant in our modern day society. Mild stress can drive us and anxiety is useful to keep us safe. However extreme levels of these symptoms can over time cause long term health conditions as well as make us more suseptible to mential conditions such as panic attacks and depression.
So next time you feeling a bit overwhelmed or fatigued why not sit back and inhale a few drops of esential oil to help quickly relieve tension. Our olfactory system is one of the quickest ways to effect our brain and reduce anxiety and stress.
The use of essential oils in treating stress and anxiety issues has long been practised. And even science can prove it. Many studies have shown that certain essential oils can actually soothe stress and anxiety, and promote feelings of calmness.
Essential oils can be diffused in an oil burner or other diffuser, put on a tissue and inhaled or just put a few drops in the palm of your hand, cup them, place under your nose (not too close!) and breathe in their wonderful aroma to feel an immediate sense of calm.
Some of the best essential oils to use for anxiety and stress are :
Lavender
Perhaps the most popular essential oil, lavender is best for relaxation. Many studies have shown that this oil is great for relieving stress, depression and anxiety. Bergamot
In 2011, researchers from China found that weekly inhalation of bergamot oil resulted in a significant reduction of blood pressure and heart rate. Bergamot oil resulted in a significant reduction of blood pressure and heart rate, which leads to lower levels of anxiety.
Clary sage
In 2010, Korean researchers found that clary sage essential oil has antidepressant-like effects useful after highly stressful situations. They found that clary sage may even be more powerful than lavender for anxiety. it is also believed to help relieve PMS and symptoms of the menopause.
